Nataraj was initially established in 1989 as one of the first places dedicated to providing organic vegetarian and vegan Indian food in Japan. They now have a total of three shops located in Ginza, Aoyama and Ogikubo.

Each of their shops has a different feel, but all are decorated with carefully chosen art and carvings directly imported from India by the owner of Nataraj.   The Ginza location, in the heart of the shopping district, spans three floors with private rooms available and live belly dancing and music on various occasions.

Their Aoyama shop, conveniently situated nearby Aoyama’s Bell Commons, offers a spacious dining room for close to sixty guests.  If you are in the Ogikubo area, they are located in an underground oasis where Chief Chef Sadananda creates his gastronomic treats.

The food is amazing. Organic vegetables are imported from several farms in Japan that they own to assure the freshest ingredients. Specially imported spices from India make for an authentic experience. natural yeast nan, which takes two days to make, as well as vegan nan are both available.

“Natural is Healthy” is their mantra and the many dedicated customers attest to the quality and taste of the cuisine produced by highly trained chefs. Curries abound overflowing with veggies. Soy and gluten meat dishes are also a specialty.

From 11:30 to 3:00 pm on weekdays, Nataraj presents their all-you-care-to-eat buffet featuring several curries, two types of nan, salad and desert. Customers can enjoy all of this organic vegetarian and vegan Indian food for about ¥1,000 (price varies slightly by location).

Nataraj also has an on-line shop where you can purchase all of the ingredients necessary to prepare delicious vegetarian indian food at home. You may want to purchase their cookbook as well as you try your hand at creating exotic meals made with simple and healthy products.
