Akasaka Hitotsugidori Clinic is a primary care clinic located in central Tokyo. They were established last year and are now part of the HealthyTOKYO Medical Partner Network. In this article, they give an overview of atopic dermatitis.
What is Atopic dermatitis?
Atopic dermatitis, also known as eczema, is a condition that makes your skin red and itchy. In Japan it is known as “Atopi”. It’s common in children but can occur at any age and in adults, too. Atopic dermatitis is chronic (long lasting) and tends to flare periodically and then subside. It may be accompanied by asthma or hay fever.
There is no known cure for atopic dermatitis, but with regular treatments and self-care measures, itching and new outbreaks can be prevented. For example, avoiding harsh soaps and other irritants, applying medicated creams or ointments, and moisturizing your skin will help.
At Akasaka Hitotsugidori Clinic, Keio University Hospital Dermatology Associate Professor Ebihara is the doctor in charge of atopic dermatitis. He specializes in a wide range of skin conditions including general skin disease, allergies, atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, and pigmented skin. He has treated a large number of patients from around the country – from children to adults.
Advice from the doctor
It’s my professional opinion that patients with atopic dermatitis should basically consult with their doctor monthly in order to alleviate and improve symptoms and achieve skin stability. However, university hospitals are very crowded, and there is only a limited time to be seen.
In order to make this it easier for outpatient care for those suffering from atopic dermatitis, we established our services – please take advantage of this convenience and feel free to come visit us.
Akasaka Hitotsugidori Clinic offers services for general internal medicine as well as provides doctors from a number of prestigious hospitals who specialize in a variety of areas including those mentioned above.
