About the product
Grated ginger with a full-bodied, fresh scent. Ginger, like many herbs and spices, is delicious but rather tedious to prepare. Ginger root has quite a tough skin when mature, and skinning it – as well as chopping or mincing it – can use up a lot of time. Our frozen, grated ginger is ready to add to anything! The skin of the ginger is removed in processing, showcasing the naturally vivid and attractive color of the ginger flesh (no colorants used!).
In March of 2008, domestically-produced ginger became difficult to obtain, and we switched to using only ginger produced in China. The color of this ginger is somewhat different from the previous domestic ginger (it is a cheery yellow), and it is also hotter than the previous ginger. This means a little will go a long way! Ginger is a key seasoning in many traditional Japanese dishes, as well as in dishes from Vietnam, China, and many other places.
Ginger is also thought to have anti-nausea effects, and is good to cook into meals when you or someone you know has an upset stomach.
How to prepare
Thaw beneath running water. Alternatively, if in a hurry, thaw by rubbing with your fingers. The grated ginger can be used in a wide range of recipes, including stir-fry, curries from around the world, soups, and stews. Ginger is used in Shougayaki, a Japanese pork dish, as well as red curry, a Thai curry frequently seen in restaurants.
