About the product
Romanesco cauliflowers are so named because they are said to have originated in an area near Rome. They have a cute lime-green hue and unique shape, and are very popular as a high-class vegetable in Europe. Their bright color makes them a great for use as decorations and garnishes, and their nutritional value makes them great for use as an ingredient in all sorts of stews and other dishes. Cauliflower, which is a cruciferous vegetable, contains phytonutrients. It also contains potassium and a lot of vitamin C.
The cauliflower heads have been cut into smaller pieces for your convenience (most pieces would fit inside a 30 to 50 mm cube). Because the cauliflower comes blanched, it will cook swiftly; making it a great last-minute addition to increase the volume of pasta dishes and salads. The cauliflower can also be eaten by itself with sauce, or used in stir-fry or gratin.
Sugarlady’s produce is harvested in season and then frozen immediately in order to ensure the highest possible nutritional value and best flavor, and because our produce is blanched before freezing, it remains vibrant and undamaged when frozen for long periods. Even if our cauliflower remains frozen for months, once defrosted it will still have its unique lime-green color.
How to prepare
To use in salads, put the still-frozen Romanesco cauliflower into hot water with a little table salt and boil briefly, then transfer it to cold water and dry it thoroughly. The cauliflower can be added frozen to stir-fry and stews a little before the dish finishes cooking, and will thaw to perfection with no fear of overcooking.
