Located just minutes from several train lines in the center of Ginza, Tokyo Ginza Shintani Dental, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic is a brand-new facility run by a vastly experienced dentist and oral surgeon. Dr. Satoru Shintani graduated from the Okayama University School of Dentistry in 1988, later engaged in research on oral cancer and earned a doctorate in that field. He became an oral surgeon, training at Aichi Cancer Center from 1994 in head and neck cancer surgery. Dr. Shintani later did research on oral surgery treatments at Harvard University’s School of Dentistry from 1997 to 1999. In 2006, he was appointed chief professor and oral surgery dean at Showa University. A faculty advisor to the University of Toronto faculty of dentistry and professor of Jinggangshan University Medical School in China, he also teaches implantology at Hanoi Medical School in Vietnam and in Indonesia. Dr. Shintani has published many books and professional journal articles on topics such as oral cancer, maxillofacial problems and other aspects of oral care. In addition to the usual dentistry skills, he is a specialist in temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ)—including the use of Botox therapy to relieve TMJ —and sleep apnea. He performs piezosurgery using ultrasound technology that cuts only bone, leaving the surrounding soft tissue uninjured for less pain and quicker healing.
