Handcrafted, organic bio-wine prepared through sustainable environmental practices that has a fragrant floral nose with delicate peach and tropical notes. A lively palate shows mandarin orange, quince, and candied lemon. Pure and bright acidity balances the richness. This vibrant, juicy wine shows beautiful concentrated flavours and a lingering mineral finish.

    This is a very fine, firm, subtle and dry, crunchy riesling. When last tasted in January 2015, the lifted nose was showing intriguing citrus like honeyed grapefruit or orange nuances amid green apple and stony notes. It has 13.7 residual sugar but you would never guess that from the mouthwatering acidity and mineral finish. It is solid and well structured with excellent length, and the great energy I have come to expect from organically grown Bench riesling

    One of the province’s top riesling producers, Hidden Bench regularly delivers quality far above the average – there’s simply no substitute for meticulous farming. Their 2013 Estate Riesling is clean, pure, crisp, dry and firmly structured, with very good to excellent length and depth. Even though this is the “mere” estate blend, this could easily sit among the top single vineyard bottlings in the region, at a nice price. Tasted July 2014.

    A firm, lip-smacking and taut riesling with a lovely oily texture. Pure and authentic flavours of pear, apple, and peach fruit dominate the palate. The wine feels riper than usual but very pleasant. Lovely mineral flavour and texture, medium bodied and tongue-coating. Very good balance. Just slightly off-dry. Tasted May 2015.


Winemaker’s Notes
The Estate Riesling Vineyards were meticulously maintained to capture their varietal character. Bunches were exposed to sunlight at fruit set with leaf removal on the East side of the canopy to maximize fruit ripening while some leaves on the West side were left to protect against sunburn. Green harvest – the elimination of under-ripe bunches – was performed at the first sign of maturity and only non-touching, evenly spaced bunches exposed to sunlight remained to promote ripening, concentrate flavours and to best express our Beamsville Bench terroir.

The grapes were handpicked, sorted and gently whole bunch pressed. Only the best quality juice was kept from the press, the equivalent of 42hL per hectare (2.7-3 tons/acre). The juice was cold settled for 2 days, then racked of its lees ( the heavy sediment) and warmed to 18 degrees Celsius to begin fermentation. Cool fermentation lasted 2 months which gives the wine wonderful complexity.

  • Sustainable practices, which means 100% organically certified fruit from only estate vineyards.
  • Individually bunch sorted white wine varietals and bunch sorted and then individual berry sort all of the red wine varietals.
  • Non-interventionist, minimalist winemaking approach with gentle handling of the wine throughout the winemaking process.
  • All wines are made with wild yeast and anything that doesn’t ferment naturally is inoculated and declassified into the winery’s bistro label.
