Soybeans from Hokkaido, gently boiled. Because these soybeans come completely shelled and pre-boiled, they can be easily used in cooking with little to no prep time required! The soybeans have been frozen separately for your convenience, and come in easy-to-use ziplock bags.
Foods made from soybeans are everywhere in traditional Japanese cooking (soy sauce, natto, tofu, and miso are all made from soybeans), and whole soybeans have many uses as well. They can be added to stews, salads, steamed dishes, and stir-fry, eaten with rice, or made into tempeh (a dense, flat food that can be made from soybeans, grains, or other beans).
When purchasing soybeans, make sure to check whether they are mature soybeans, or edamame (young, green soybeans) – both are delicious, but are often eaten in different ways. Sugarlady carries both mature soybeans and edamame.
Sugarlady’s beans are harvested in season and then frozen immediately in order to ensure the highest possible nutritional value and best flavor, and remains vibrant and undamaged when frozen for long periods. Even if our soybeans remain frozen for months, once defrosted they will still have their warm, sandy color.
How to prepare
Without defrosting the package, take out the portion of soybeans you will be using. To eat with sauce or add to salad, put the soybeans frozen into boiling water, boil for 2 to 3 minutes, and dry before use. When making stir-fry, stew, or steamed dishes, the soybeans can be used frozen.
