autumn-pond- Mount Fuji Wellness Retreat - Seiyoen

Mount Fuji Wellness Retreat – Seiyoen Since 2016 Wellness Union

Overview

Nestled in the forests of the National Park at the foot of Mount Fuji is wellness retreat Seiyoen, a place to rejuvenate in a natural and traditional Japanese environment. Wellness activities are accompanied by expertly prepared macrobiotic vegan dishes and customized herbal medicinal teas. The name Seiyoen (pronounced say-yo-en) means a quiet park to rest and respect nature, reflecting the intention of Dr. Tatsutaka Yamamoto, the resident medical doctor and proprietor of this estate. The spirituality of this estate is further enhanced by the fact that Mount Fuji Wellness Retreat - Seiyoen is situated on the Ley line between the revered Mt Fuji and the famous Izumo Taisha Shrine, located in the west of Japan. It is believed that the Ley line connects only sacred sites around the world. The resort is located in a truly special location close to an ancient village. Forests, fresh running streams, a Shinto shrine and a crystal clear series of waterfalls are all within, or a few moments walk from the property.

How fitting as Dr. Yamamoto, a specialist in Western and Traditional Oriental Medicine, and his wife and co-proprietor Kiyomi, created Seiyoen to be a healing retreat for all who seek wellness. Spanning more than sixteen acres, Seiyoen comprises three buildings, thoughtfully designed to create a restful enclave for your body and mind. Inspired by the health spas found across Europe, Mount Fuji Wellness Retreat - Seiyoen promises a wellness experience that is unlike others. As Dr. Yamamoto is a practitioner and believer of integrated medicine of the East and West, wellness at Seiyoen is regarded with a varied and holistic approach. He believes strongly in Environment Therapy - the benefit of returning to nature is especially impactful for those of us who ordinarily are surrounded by the concrete and steel of the cities.

Dr. Yamamoto believes wellness at Mount Fuji Wellness Retreat - Seiyoen begins by creating the right environment for healing. Seiyoen was built using natural raw materials with no chemicals used on site. The traditional buildings are empathetic to their natural environment in design, arranged around a large pond filled with fresh artisian water flowing from the mountains. The 200 year-old main house has been lovingly restored and contains a series of simple and immaculate traditional Japanese-style guest rooms, where guests sleep on fluffy futons resting on tatami mats or raised tatami-beds. The main house is connected to a dining area with a wood hearth providing comforting warmth in the winter months; Tora (the Tiger Cottage) has been prepared for guests who prefer a bit more privacy. Situated in the garden near the main house, Tora offers its guests a private living room with an irori (traditional Japanese sunken hearth), separate sleeping quarters, a private shower and a kitchenette to prepare herbal teas or your favorite organic treats. All guests in Seiyoen have access to the traditional private bathhouse with two types of large baths for couples or families.

This resort has been created with adults in mind, although families with older children are welcome. As a wellness retreat, Seiyoen enforces strict rules of no alcohol, no smoking and no loud merrymaking during your stay. Dr. Yamamoto believes maintaining a respectful environment for nature as well as fellow guests will allow for a conducive healing environment. Be mindful that unnecessary creature comforts (like television) are intentionally missing as the focus is on restoring our relationship with our natural environment and re-connecting with our inner compass to heal. WiFi is available for those who do not want to be completely be removed from the grid. Families with younger children, or travelers looking to indulge should check out the nearby Luxury Cottage Camping Resort – Sun & Moon Club or the Private Mount Fuji Villa.

Connecting with nature can also happen through one of the thoughtfully planned activities, such as a Japanese slow-movement training, a natural essential oil acupressure massage, making your own fir cream, spice elixir and herb water. All guests will have access to a Ryodouraku exam (health check using a low frequency medical device designed according to Japanese/Chinese medicine principles). This is a rare opportunity that should not be missed. With Dr. Yamamoto's professional knowledge, customized herbal medicinal teas are also created for you based on an analysis of your condition. Regardless of your preferences, the wellness team is your partner in supporting your wellness needs and health goals throughout your stay.

An important aspect of wellness, Dr. Yamamoto and his wife, Kiyomi, believe that nutrition cannot be ignored. More often than not, too many people abuse their digestion systems with poor dietary habits. Kiyomi draws on her knowledge of macrobiotic foods and applies Japanese and Western cooking techniques to create vegan meals both healthful and tasty. Carefully designed to reinstate your body’s equilibrium, the vegan macrobiotic menu at Seiyoen promises focus on grains, vegetables and soy products. Using only locally sourced ingredients ensures meals are seasonally suitable whilst demonstrating their commitment to the community – another aspect of wellness that seems to have taken a backseat in modernity.

Seiyoen provides a calming and healing environment, not often found in Japan or elsewhere. A stay here will help you to relax and reset. Click here to book your stay at Mount Fuji Wellness Retreat - Seiyoen now.
