The FitGainjin wants to get you into the best shape of your life, inside and out. Now you can train one-on-one with the man behind the YouTube channel with more than 10,000 subscribers.
When American-born Seth Rodebeck was looking for a way to train his body following his service in the United States Air Force, he turned to bodybuilding. With a fitness background in surfing, yoga and rock climbing, he wanted to see how he could optimize his daily training for maximum results. His hard work paid off with a second place title at his first-ever competition in 2014. He followed that up with three wins in 2015, including the No. 1 ranking in Japan for physique. Today, he trains men, women and children of all fitness levels and backgrounds.
Seth believes 80 to 90 percent of the work we put into being healthy and fit happens outside of the gym. This is why he offers not just a list of exercises to his clients, but a complete program that also includes nutritional counseling tailored to the clients likes, dislikes, lifestyle and desired results. He also provides homework for the client to complete between training sessions to help them learn more about nutrition and wellness and track their progress. He aims to give clients with the most direct path to their goals, making day-to-day choices simpler and lifestyle changes easier to stick to. There’s no one-size-fits-all program out there, which is why the program is 100 percent personalized.
There’s also a mental component that cannot be ignored when working toward complete health. After taking an interest in behavioral therapy, which examples the thoughts and feelings behind certain behaviors, Seth decided to pursue a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Temple University, eventually taking his studies in the direction of sports psychology. He combines this knowledge with his expertise in nutrition and fitness to help clients meet their desired goals, no matter what their starting point or motivation.
Seth primarily trains clients out of Bungeling Bay Komazawa Kickboxing Gym in Tokyo, where he’s on staff as a fitness consultant (Bungeling Bay also has a Kickboxing Gym in Ebisu). However, he’s able to train at outside locations based on the client’s needs. Overall, he wants his clients to gain not only weight loss and improved strength, but also an education on how to keep their bodies healthy and functioning optimally.
