Understanding the Certificate of Analysis

A Certificate of Analysis, often referred to as a COA, is an essential document that shows what is in a product or ingredient, including cannabinoids like THC and CBD. It confirms that our products are safe and meet Japan’s strict laws.

Understanding Japan’s THC Limits

Japan limits the amount of THC (the psychoactive compound in cannabis) allowed in products. Here’s what’s allowed:

  • Oils and Powders: Must have THC levels below 0.001% (equal to 10 ppm, parts per million).
  • Edibles (e.g., gummies): Must have THC levels below 0.0001% (equal to 1 ppm, parts per million).
  • Packaged Drinks: Must have THC levels below 0.00001% (equal to 0.1 ppm, parts per million).

We make sure all our products meet or exceed these rules.

How to Read a COA

A COA has three important parts to look at:

  1. Cannabinoids Tested: This section lists compounds like THC and CBD.
    • THC types (like Δ9-THC) will show as ND (Not Detected) if they are below the detection limit.
  2. LOD (Limit of Detection): The smallest amount the test can find. If the THC is below this, it will be marked as ND.
  3. Results: Look at the column for THC. If it says ND or the percentage is below Japan’s limits, the product is compliant.

Key Takeaways from the COAs

  • In all examples, THC is ND (Not Detected): or extremely low, so the raw materials are compliant with Japan’s rules.
  • The percentage for CBD (the active ingredient in most of our products) is clearly shown and aligns with what is expected for high-quality ingredients.

HealthyTOKYO’s Promise

A COA has three important parts to look at:
