About the product
This taro is JAS certified organic, which means you can rest assured the taro has been grown on farmland where pesticides and chemical fertilizers have not been used for three years or longer, and the use of GMO ingredients nor exposure to radiation is allowed.
Our taro comes peeled, so you can easily add it to your meals without needing to set aside time for washing or skinning, and comes in ziplock bags for easy storage. Each piece of taro is between 8 and 16 grams. Taro is a somewhat sweet root vegetable frequently used in Japanese cooking, and contains vitamin E, potassium, magnesium, and fiber.
Sugarlady’s vegetables are harvested in season and then frozen immediately in order to ensure the highest possible nutritional value and best flavor, and because our vegetables are blanched before freezing, they remain vibrant and undamaged even when frozen for long periods.
How to prepare
When using the taro, you can take out the portion you need without defrosting the package. To make vegetable fukumeni (Japanese-style simmered vegetables), first season and heat your chosen broth. When it comes to a boil, add the frozen taro, and cook on medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes. Afterwards, put on a drop-lid, lower the heat and simmer. A similar method can also be employed to make a variety of other stews using taro. If you wish to cut the taro into smaller pieces before adding to a dish, first thaw the desired amount of taro in the microwave until you can cut it with a knife, then proceed to slice into any size pieces you wish.
