Matcha Tahini Spread – Double Superfood Power

This matcha tahini spread combines flavors from Japan and the Mediterranean to create a healthy, yet delicious alternative to store bought spreads.  At En Healthy, tahini graces our table everyday, sometimes even more than once a day because it is nutritious and can be eaten in so many ways.  We never thought of adding matcha to tahini until we had the opportunity to taste HealthyTokyo’s Organic Matcha and realized this unique, fresh flavor would go well with the nuttiness of the sesame seeds.

Sesame seeds have been around for more than 3000 years, and were originally harvested for oil.  Records suggest they originated in Africa or India.  These versatile little seeds have made their way across the globe and are prominent in both Japanese and Mediterranean cuisine.  The health benefits of sesame seeds are numerous as the vitamins and minerals present can help with blood sugar management, cancer, help digestion, inflammation and even act as a detoxifier.  The rich nutritional value of the sesame seeds is highlighted in this matcha tahini spread.

Ingredients

1 cup (200 gr) sesame seeds

2 tsp olive oil (or any other vegetable oil)

Dash of salt

8 tbsp water

3 tbsp honey (or sub. agave nectar to make it vegan)

1 1/2 tsp Organic Matcha No. 3 Sprinkle

Instructions

1. Pour the sesame seeds, olive oil, salt into a food processor and blend for 15-20 minutes until creamy.

2. Add the water, honey and matcha to the mixture and blend well.

3. Transfer the matcha tahini spread to a glass container and refrigerate*

 

NOTES

*This matcha tahini spread is best consumed within one week.
