Dr. Kakuko had dreamed of becoming a doctor since she was in high school. As a teen, she played tennis and handball, and at that time unfortunately suffered from a sports injury to her ankle. It was this experience that prompted her to make sports medicine her specialty in medical school. She acquired her medical license in 1992 from Yokohama City University, School of Medicine. Upon graduating, she began her MD and PhD training in Orthopedics, to become an orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Kakuko continued her training and surgery for more than 10 years and became an expert in her field.
With her unique background and skill she began working for the chief doctor of the orthopedic department of a general hospital and simultaneously was chosen to become the team doctor for the Japanese national Speed Skating team. She has traveled with the team to Norway, the Netherlands, Canada, the US and other countries. After that she became the offshore doctor of the Japan Delegation for the Olympics Committee and has been working at the Japan Institute of Sports Science (JISS) since 2009.

Dr. Kakuko is also a best selling author with her book “Otona no Rajio Taiso” series (Radio Exercise Program for Adults), having sold nearly one million copies. She regularly appears on television to promote proper exercise and healthy living.
With all this experience and lack of preventive sports medicine and anti-aging clinics in Japan, she decided to open her own in Tokyo in April 2014. The main focus of her clinic is on the importance of correctly moving your body to prevent injury and deter joint and spinal diseases.
It is rare in Japan to find a sports medicine clinic staffed with a doctor and the various experts needed for the complete diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic injuries. Dr. Kakuko Sports Clinic in Daikanyama currently has ten staff members. In addition to Dr. Kakuko, an orthopedist with the capability to medically diagnosis patients and prescribe and dispense the required pharmaceuticals at the clinic, there are two full time physiotherapists, three part-time physiotherapists, a bone specialist, a Pilates & Gyrokinesis instructor, an acupuncturist, a nutritionist and the receptionist. Dr. Kakuko meets with all of her patients to determine what of the appropriate therapy and then sends them to the right specialists for treatment. If surgery is required, the clinic will arrange for highly qualified professionals in an affiliated hospital.
