As deep-fried tofu is rich in protein yet contains no choresterol, it is an ideal food for people who prefer vegetarian or vegan diet. People with soy allergy should take caution or avoid this product.

It also contains good amount of calcium, magnesium, fiber, iron and zinc. Zinc is especially beneficial for men’s health as it promotes generation of male hormones.

How to prepare

Thaw in refrigeratorAbura Age (deep-fried tofu) can be enjoyed in miso soup, Nimono (vegetable stew), as a topping for Udon and Soba noodles. For Udon and Soba noodles. To use deep-fried tofu as a topping for udon and soba, simply cook it with Dashi (bonito broth, soy sauce, mirin, sake). Dashi is made with Koikuchi soy sauce in Kanto area and Usukuchi soy sauce in Kansai area. Udon and Soba with deep-fried tofu on top is called Kitsune (fox). (e.g. Kitsune Udon / Kitsune Soba) and they are one of the most basic, yet most popular way of eating Udon/Soba. Kitsune was named after the god of fox at Inari Shrine, whose favorite food was deep-fried tofu. Inari Sushi (Sushi rice packed in seasoned deep-fried tofu) was also named after this fox and the shrine.
