Hosomaki sushi rolls are narrow and often have one ingredient as the filling. These hosomaki sushi rolls are made with kanpyo gourd and can be easily prepared anytime using just your microwave. The kanpyo, or dried gourd shavings, were stewed and reconstituted before being added to the sushi, and are sweet and delicious.
How to prepare
To microwave: Remove the sushi (still frozen) from its bag, and place it on a plate. Microwave uncovered approximately as follows. For one roll, heat in a 500W microwave for 1 minute 40 seconds and in a 600W microwave for 1 minute 20 seconds. For two rolls, heat in a 500W microwave for 1 minute 20 seconds and in a 600W microwave for 1 minute 40 seconds. After microwaving, let the sushi rolls sit for 10 to 15 minutes, then cut them into slices and enjoy.If it should happen that after microwaving for the suggested lengths of time the rice is still hard or has not defrosted, microwave for an additional 30 seconds to 1 minute. Cooking times will vary depending on the model of microwave and on the temperature of the sushi. Please adjust accordingly. Once the sushi has begun to defrost, do not return it to the freezer or store it in the refrigerator. Instead, the sushi should be defrosted fully, following the instructions written above, and eaten. The sushi should be eaten as soon as possible after defrosting.
