About the product
Chimaki is a traditional Japanese food made of sticky rice and based upon a similar Chinese creation called zongzi. Chimaki may be sweet or savory depending on how they are filled, and usually come wrapped in leaves. In Japan they are eaten in May around the time of Children’s Day (the 5th). In China zongzi are also eaten in May, around the time of the Duanwu Festival.
These chimaki are prepared in steamers made of sawara cypress in order to enhance their deliciousness. They come tied up in natural bamboo wrappers, making it easy to sense their hand-made quality.
Depending on your location, items such as chimaki can be difficult to find in stores. If you are planning to celebrate Children’s Day or the Duanwu Festival and are looking to serve authentic foods during your celebration, or if you simply enjoy having chimaki on hand as a snack, our frozen chimaki are a quick and easy solution!
